About the ArtistWhile growing up on the northwest side of Chicago, my main interests were art, animals, and horseback riding. When our family dog, Buffy, died of old age, I was sad to notice that we had no really good pictures to remember her by. Working from memory, and a picture of another dog of the same breed, I did her portrait in pastels. After High School, I studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. In addition to art fundamentals, life drawing and architectural rendering, I studied watercolors with Irving Shapiro. After graduation, I worked for several years as an illustrator, and a graphic designer before starting my family. As my children grew older, my thoughts returned to art. To help rekindle my interests, I studied watercolors with Thelma Cornell Spain. I explore a style that is influenced by impressionism. Because of my lifelong love of animals, they are naturally the subject of my paintings, as well as intimate landscapes and floras. I strive to capture a subject's personality, which photographs often fail to capture. For more information, contact me via e-mail at krisplum@flash.net |
